Most of Yunnan is still planted with Catimor, but in recent years, a few new varieties have been introduced and are gradually adapting to the local terroir, showing promising results.
Among them, Pacamara stands out as a truly special hybrid - born from Pacas (a natural mutation of Bourbon) and Maragogipe (a Typica variant). From Maragogipe it inherits its impressively large beans, while the Pacas lineage gives it remarkable flavour potential.
This particular Pacamara from Yun Lan Estate was the most outstanding among all the Yunnan-grown Pacamaras we cupped. Thanks to its nutrient-rich soil and relatively high elevation, this lot of washed Pacamara shows remarkable depth and sweetness in the cup, with dried dates and ripe plum up front, unfolding into caramel and a lingering oolong tea finish.
