Xi Ding is another renowned Pu'er tea-producing region in Yunnan. The coffee from Xi Ding is grown in the mountainous areas of tropical Xishuang Banna. The warm, high-altitude environment provides moderate rainfall and significant diurnal temperature variation—conditions that are ideal for the accumulation of sugars in both coffee and tea.
DR-296, also known as "Purple-Leaf Caturra," is a natural mutation variety developed by the Dehong Tropical Agriculture Research Institute in Yunnan. In recent years, the institute has made significant contributions to diversifying Yunnan's coffee genetics. The most distinctive feature of DR-296, compared to the more common Catimor varietal in Yunnan, is the copper-purple hue of its young leaves.
This is a coffee with excellent drinkability and flavour profile. It offers a clean and round taste, combining fruity notes with a tea-like aroma. It also carries a caramel-like sweetness and a smooth body, resulting in an impressively well-balanced cup.
